Oliver stopped dead in his tracks. He almost dropped the pond water as he realized that Nippy’s cage door was wide open. So was the window. “Wh-what happened?” he gulped. “Where’s Nippy?” The Witch Baby was waving out of the window. “Bye bye, Nippy,” she said cheerfully. Then she turned to Oliver. “Nippy gone now,” she said in a matter-of-fact sort of way. Oliver felt as if he was in a bad dream. He rushed to the window, spilling pond water everywhere, and leaned out of it. “Nippy! Nippy! Come back!” he yelled. He could just about see a single dark speck on the horizon – and then it grew too small to be seen any more. Nippy had gone. |
